Obituary for Carol B. Vinick
Carol Berns Vinick passed away on February 4, 2015 in Valhalla, NY after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. Born in St. Paul, MN on November 2, 1947 to holocaust survivors Max and Ruth (nee Moses) Berns. She graduated from Baldwin High school in Freeport, NY before attending Vassar College class of ’69. She had a lifelong love of languages – a French major, she spent her junior year in Paris but also excelled in German, Spanish and Hebrew studies, receiving a master’s in education from Johns Hopkins University. In 1970 she married Fredric Vinick with whom she raised three children Julie, Peter and Andrew in Waterford, CT where they resided for 17 years. While in Connecticut she worked for non-profit organization Concern Inc., helping recent parolees to find employment, and taught high school French at Norwich Free Academy. Refusing to be hampered by the increased immobility brought on by her disease, she started an invitation and stationary company, Carol Lynn Prints, out of her home in Lexington, MA as an outlet for her irrepressible creativity. She made friends wherever she went. Selfless and generous, she never forgot a gift and gladly spent hours on the phone with friends and relatives, old and new. Carol is survived by her devoted children, Julie Aronwald (husband Jeffrey), Peter Vinick (wife Megan Farrelly) and Andrew Vinick, cherished grandchildren, Max, Henry, Anna, Elise & Samuel. A Funeral Service was held at Rye Community Synagogue in Rye, NY and interment followed at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
