Obituary for Clark Neuringer
Clark H. Neuringer - beloved father and grandfather, architect, and committed civic volunteer, died on January 20 at his home in Mamaroneck, NY. He was 72.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, to parents Sol and Dorothy (nee Horowitz), he studied architecture at Pratt Institute (’68) where he met his wife Esther, and remained a practicing architect from graduation through his final days. He settled in Mamaroneck, NY in 1974, where he and his wife raised their family. He was immensely proud of the accomplishments of his children and loved bringing family together for any and every occasion. He greeted people with a cheerful demeanor and addressed issues with sharp intellect. In the 1980s he became active as a civic volunteer, serving for over three decades on various local land use boards. He was highly respected in his community for his expertise and fair-minded approach to local issues, leading to a bid for mayor in 2013. His architectural practice was diverse; he designed homes, retail space, schools, temporary housing, and he worked with a loyal group of clients who were with him for decades. One of his specialties was affordable housing and he was involved in creating homes for thousands of families and individuals in NYC and Westchester throughout his career. One of his greatest accomplishments was his participation in the design of Federal City Shelter, the largest emergency homeless shelter in the U.S. A lifelong Democrat, it was a point of pride for Clark that the shelter was located a stone’s throw from the Reagan White House.
A Funeral Service will be held 12:30pm Monday, January 22 at Zion Memorial Chapel, 785 E Boston Post Rd in Mamaroneck.
He is survived by his children Shane (Dena), Keir (Brittany), and Megan; grandsons Graydon and Emiri; siblings Jules and Myrna Levy. He is predeceased by his daughter Sybil, and wife Esther.
Donations in his honor may be made to: Westchester Land Trust and the Washingtonville Housing Alliance.
