Obituary for Doris Oppenheimer
Doris Oppenheimer, of Mamaroneck, passed away May 27, 2021, at age 99 and a half. She was born in Germany November 19, 1921, to Moritz & Betty Schott. Prior to the days of Hitler and the Nazi regime, Doris enjoyed a wonderful childhood in her native country. During the dark evening of Kristallnacht, she was hidden by nuns when Nazi coverts pretended to be her and tried to lure her family out of the house, before they ransacked it. Her father and brother were captured and sent to an encampment, but miraculously, but were saved and the whole family traveled to England, only to endure The Blitz. Doris and her family eventually made their way to the United States, where she met her husband Siegfried. They settled in Larchmont where she and her husband owned and operated the Alsatian Pastry Shop. Strife led Doris to be very devout in her faith and devoted to her place of worship. She was actively involved in Westchester Jewish Center. She had enjoyed the title of “oldest living member of the temple” as she’d often recount her stories to others. Doris is ultimately remembered as a fighter and survivor. She is the beloved wife of the late Siegfried Oppenheimer. She is survived by her cherished children, Martin Oppenheimer (Joyce), Irene Wiener (Stanley) and Linda Durst (Richard), loving grandchildren, Kenneth (Emily), Dr. Michelle Oppenheimer Eisenberg, Bonnie (Larry) Ziechner, Brian (Robin) and great grandchildren, Jacob, Evelyn, Clayton, Gabriel, Jayden, Juliya, and Aryana. She is predeceased by siblings, Werner Schott (Ann) and Ruth Lowenstein (Hans), as well as her cherished grandson Jonathan David Pfeffer. Doris’ extraordinary life will be honored at the temple she loved so dearly, WJC, on Sunday 10am, followed by interment at Beth EL Cemetery.
