Obituary for Frederick A. Katz
Fred Katz of Larchmont passed away on January 9. He was 95. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 24, 1926 to Lou and Edith Katz (nee Lancet). Beloved husband of Marilyn Katz, who passed away in February 2020, loving father of Linda Katz (Dianne Curran), Charles Katz and Larry Katz (Janet), dear “pop” of Molly, Robert and Brian Katz, loving uncle of Deborah Teller and Richard Teller.
Fred was a true family man who, along with Marilyn, provided a loving upbringing for his children and relished spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid Mets (don’t mention the Yankees) and Giants (don’t mention the Jets) fan. He loved days at Long Beach, Jones Beach, Cape Cod beaches (any beach!), with friends and family over fifty+ years. He played golf as a young man and took up tennis after he retired.
Fred became the president of Lou Katz, Inc. a manufacturing company started by his father. When the baby bonnets that the company specialized in went out of fashion and the company was dissolved, Fred worked at several manufacturing companies until his retirement.
A World War II veteran, Fred served in the Air Force from April, 1944 to May 1946. He felt a connection to the Philippines where he was stationed for a time, and for many years sponsored a child there from young age through graduation from high school. He enjoyed the correspondence with the young women he supported.
Fred was loved by his extended family members and friends for his sense of humor (especially puns), kindness and decency.
