Obituary for George J. Whinston
Dr. George J. Whinston (1927-2018) George Junius Whinston (Juni) passed away on Tuesday October 2, 2018. A resident of Scarsdale, NY, he practiced periodontics for many years in Manhattan, while also teaching at NYU Dental School. After retiring from his practice, he taught at NYU full time. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Dental School (1949), he was among the earliest graduates of the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics at NYU in 1953, was Chief of the Section of Periodontics at New York Polyclinic Hospital, and served as President of the Midtown Dental Society and Treasurer of the Northeast Society of Periodontics. Beloved grandfather of Noah and Naomi, father of Michael, father-in-law of Bonnie, brother of Roberta, and uncle of Lyn, Jon, Beth, and Howard; his wife Joan, daughter Betsy, and brother Bertram predeceased him. He is survived by his wonderful partner of many years, Mary Goldblatt. A graveside service is planned for this Friday at 11am at Sharon Gardens Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Ave., Valhalla, NY.
