Obituary for Lilyan Abramson

Lilyan Abramson, a teacher and artist, died in her sleep at home March 24, 2018 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 91. She is survived by her husband, Paul, two children, Evan and Lauren, son-in-law David Lewis and two grandchildren, Jacob and Jenna Lewis. Lilyan taught sixth grade for more than 30 years at Trinity, Ward and Isaac Young schools in New Rochelle. She was an artist, exhibiting water color and oil paintings at shows in Westchester and Greenwich and using her art skills in her teaching. She was born in Providence, RI to Joseph Sumners and Pauline Houghton Sumners, attended the city's Classical High School and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. She received her teaching degree from the College of New Rochelle. Prior to becoming a teacher she worked at Newsweek and Mad magazines and served as managing editor of the Encyclopedia of World Economics.
