Obituary for Marilyn T. Katz
Marilyn Katz of Larchmont passed away on February 8. She was 91. Born in Philadelphia, PA on January 5, 1929 to Herman & Molly Teller (nee Collins). Beloved wife of Frederick Katz with whom she would have celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary on February 26, loving mother of Linda Katz (Dianne Curran), Charles Katz and Larry Katz (Janet), cherished grandmother of Molly, Robert and Brian Katz, dear sister of Murray Teller (Florence Burns) and the late Shelly Teller and loving aunt of Deborah Teller and Richard Teller. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Leila Alson.
Marilyn was devoted to her family, to her many friends and to social justice. She was the heart of our family and nurtured the special spark she found in each of her children and her grandchildren. She embraced all of our extended family – maintaining relationships across generations. She delighted in attending simchas – often the last to leave a wedding or Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration.
Marilyn had friends dating back to childhood and college, from Queens where she and Fred moved after they married in 1950, and from New Rochelle where they settled five years later. She embraced new friends at United Cerebral Palsy, where she worked for seventeen years. Her devotion to peace and justice was deep and long-lasting, and also a source of friends young and old. In the 1960s she was an active member of Women Strike for Peace, joining the effort to ban nuclear testing and to end the war in Vietnam. She continued working for racial justice and for peace through WESPAC.
Marilyn loved attending the Metropolitan Opera – at the Met when younger and through the live-stream movies in the later years; reading, alone or with her several book clubs; outings and vacations with friends; and most especially, time with family.
A Funeral Service will be held at Zion Memorial Chapel, Mamaroneck. Burial will be at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla.
