Devoted husband of Nancy (Karp) for 61 years. Beloved father of Debbie Schnur (Danny), Liz Newman (Steve) and Sue Ellen Gerber (Steven). Proud Grandfather of: Sam and Max Schnur, Madeleine Kahn (Jona); Matthew and Allison Newman; Emily Shaw (McLean), Meghan and Katie Gerber. Delighted Great-Grandfather of Asher Kahn, and loving brother of Joel Steiger (Carole Ann). Dr. Steiger was a graduate of The Johns Hopkins University and The University of Basel Medical School. He was in private practice in Mamaroneck, NY for over thirty years. From 1975-2000, Dr. Steiger was a consultant in Internal Medicine at the Rye Hospital Center, a private psychiatric hospital. In addition, starting in 1972, he served as Police and Fire Surgeon for the Village of Mamaroneck. The following year, he co-founded the Mamaroneck Fire Department Rescue Squad (which is now known as the Mamaroneck Emergency Medical Service) and trained its volunteers. Cementing his love for the Village and its community, he was appointed, in 2002, to the Health Commission of the Village of Mamaroneck. Dr. Steiger also served as President of the Westchester Society of Internal Medicine from 1985-2000 and was a member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Society of Internal Medicine.
