Obituary for Rose Behar
Rose Behar, of Harrison, passed away September 28, 2018, days before her 94th birthday. She was born in Kovno, Lithuania, on October 5, 1924, the daughter of Theodore & Luba Frenkel. Rose was raised in Matamoras, Mexico and immigrated to New York City when she was 13. She was fluent in 5 languages and worked as a translator while going to City College at night to earn her BA and masters in English literature. She enjoyed a long career as a bilingual school teacher in the NYC Public Schools. Rose was an avid bridge player, voracious reader and loved to write. She also enjoyed playing the piano and was a prolific knitter. After she retired from teaching, she was devoted to helping raise her grandchildren. Rose is survived by her beloved children, Dr. Caren Behar (Dr. Daniel Colangelo) and Adam Behar (Julie), and loving grandchildren, Ariel, Dave & Sam Colangelo and Mathew, Ethan and Alex Behar. A funeral service will be held on Sunday 10am at ZION MEMORIAL CHAPEL 785 E. Boston Post Rd Mamaroneck, 914-381-1809. Interment to follow at Sharon Gardens Cemetery.
