Roslyn Cohen Seidman
Roslyn Cohen Seidman, age 84, died on January 13, 2017 in Yonkers, New York.
Roslyn is survived by her husband Jacob (Jack), of 63 years, her sons David (Anna) of Vienna, Virginia, Adam of Boulder, Colorado and Eric (Leslie) of Westport, Connecticut, her sister Sylvia Furman of New York, New York, and her grandchildren Arielle Seidman of Fairfax, Virginia, Daniel Seidman of Ithaca, New York and Madeline Seidman of Williamstown, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her sister Evelyn Bornstein and her brother, Phillip Cohen. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a great-great nephew.
Roslyn was born on April 18, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to parents Nathan and Ida Cohen.
She married Jacob Seidman in 1953 and the couple raised their three sons in Jericho, New York. She and Jack loved to spend summers and weekends at their second home in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
Roslyn graduated from Brooklyn College and initially taught elementary school at PS 147 in Williamsburg. Later, she obtained a master’s degree in library science from C.W. Post College and was a children’s librarian in the Jericho Public Library for many years. After retirement Roslyn and Jack moved to Manhattan where she enjoyed theatre, music, reading, travel, and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Her family and friends will always remember her as a bright, cultured, and strongminded woman with a great love of family.
A funeral is scheduled, with a graveside service, at Sharon Gardens Cemetery, in Valhalla, New York on Sunday, January 15, at 10:30am. Family and friends are invited to the home of Eric and Leslie Seidman, after the funeral, at 10 Beechwood Lane, Westport, Connecticut 06880. The family will also be sitting Shiva on Sunday evening from 7 – 9pm, and on Monday from 2 – 5pm and from 7 – 9pm at 10 Beechwood Ln in Westport.
