Obituary for Steven C. Strauss
Steven Charles Strauss, longtime resident of New Rochelle, NY and Manhattan, NY, passed away on February 27, 2020. He was born in Baltimore, MD and grew up in Chevy Chase, MD. Steven was predeceased by his parents, Phyllis and Leon Strauss. Steven is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ruth, his daughters Marley and Amelia, his brothers Michael (Sharon) and Paul (Debra), as well as loving cousins, nephews, niece, and in-laws.
Steven always had a passion for medicine. After completing his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University and his medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine, he moved to New York City for his internship and residency at Beth Israel Hospital. Steven was ahead of his time in understanding that the body and mind should be incorporated in traditional medical solutions. He designed and taught “Lighten Up” seminars for women, which focused on the importance of body positivity and acceptance in achieving goals; he went to write a book about his findings titled The Body Signal Secret. Steven also had a private practice for over 35 years, worked with HIV/AIDs patients in the early years of the AIDS crisis, and served as the head physician for several adult care homes in the New York Metropolitan Area.
In addition to his passion for medicine, Steven absolutely loved spending time with his immediate and extended family. He was always trying new things, whether that was picking up running and completing the New York City marathon, or trying whatever new game or activity his kids were in to, from chess to ice skating.
The family will receive friends at the Zion Funeral Home in Mamaroneck on Sunday March 1, 2020 at 1pm.
