Halperin -- Steve died of an aortic aneurism on November 29, 2022. He was 60 years old.
Steve was raised in Chappaqua, graduating from Chappaqua High School in 1979. He earned a BA in English from the University of Rochester and a JD from Cardoza School of Law. Steve, forever energetic and productive, owned and operated a house painting company while an undergraduate and a computer company while a law student.
In 1987, Steve joined his father David’s law practice -- and Halperin & Halperin PC was born. He became a skilled litigator, never shying away from a trial and the long hours of work it would entail. He loved a challenge and was a powerful advocate for his clients, but always found the time to help strangers, even when there was no fee to be earned.
While most lawyers focused on a narrow aspect of the law, and Steve was certainly an expert in medical malpractice, he was also part of a dying breed of generalist with knowledge of criminal, real estate, insurance and probate law. With his legal knowledge, savvy and common sense, Steve was the first person his family and friends turned to when faced with a problem.
Steve’s deep love and admiration for his wife, Iren, has never waned. He was devoted to her and his three children -- Alessandra, Matthew and Isabella.
Steve was an avid sailor, first cruising New England shores with friends and then buying his first racer/cruiser in 1992. He eventually moved up to a 37-foot sloop named Calliope. Recently, Steve ventured beyond coastal cruising to sailing in the 2018 Bermuda Race as Watch Captain. Steve was at his happiest on his weeklong cruises each summer with Matthew and his friend, John Hamlett.
Funeral services will take place on December 1, 2022, at 12 noon at Westchester Jewish Center, Mamaroneck, NY. Donations in Steve’s memory can be made to The Humane Society of Westchester.
